Alvin & the Chipmunks

Rating:★★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Kids & Family
"Alvin and the Chipmunks" tells the story of three singing chipmunks and their rise to musical fame and fortune. The chipmunks, named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, with the help of their human friend/manager/songwriter Dave Seville, first achieve success with a Christmas song, a song you have likely heard over a million times, "The Chipmunk Song" (or "Please Christmas Don't Be Late"). But you probably already knew all of that. The Chipmunks have been around for almost fifty years, have "released" several albums, starred in a TV show or two, and have been merchandised out and up the whazoo. The Chipmunks are nothing new. However, that lack of novelty shouldn't stop you from going to see the live action "Alvin and the Chipmunks" because it really is quite good. In fact, it's probably the best "family film" of the year, and I'm serious when I say this, one of the best movies of 2007.

Again, there's nothing particularly "new" here. We do get a bit of an "origin" story, though. When we first meet them, the Chipmunks (voiced by Justin Long, Mathew Gray Gubler, and Jesse McCartney) are living in a tree, packing it with nuts for the winter and singing that "Bad Day" song from "American Idol." Suddenly, their home is cut down and thrown in the back of a truck. The Chipmunks end up hitching a ride with the truck and arrive in the lobby of Jet Records, where their home is the new lobby Christmas tree. It's here that they run into struggling songwriter Dave Seville (Jason Lee), who after being turned down once again by record producer Ian Hawke (David Cross), takes a gift basket with them in it (he doesn't know they're in the basket at the time). Dave takes the Chipmunks home, where they immediately start to cause all kinds of mischief. When Dave finds out what exactly is now in his house, he naturally wants to get rid of them. Who would want talking chipmunks in their house? As Dave says, it's weird. But, despite their trashing his house and helping him lose his paying day job as an ad executive, Dave lets the Chipmunks stay.

And then Dave hits the motherload. He finds out that the talking Chipmunks can sing, too. Using his songwriting skills, Dave creates a song for Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, and after hearing the song, Ian gives the Chipmunks a recording contract. The Chipmunks quickly become the hottest thing in the world and make everyone involved piles of money. The Chipmunks start to see Dave as more than a friend (Theodore is the first to call Dave "Dad"), and they start to become a sort of pseudo family. Dave manages their career and gives them a real home. Being a father, of course, means looking out for the Chipmunks' well being. He doesn't want them to become so awash in fame that they lose their identity.

Ian, being the scumbag record producer that he is (aren't they all?), has other plans. Ian figures that if he can somehow convince the Chipmunks that Dave really doesn't want them around, he can take them into his custody and do whatever he wants with them (constant touring, where the real money in music is made). So, will the Chipmunks fall for Ian's slick scheme and leave their pal Dave? Will Dave be able to keep his new pseudo family in line? Will the Chipmunks be able to handle fame and fortune and still be little kids?

Alvin is the leader of the trio, Simon is the brains, and Theodore is the funny little pudgy guy. Theodore ends up standing out more than the other two, mostly because he's so darn cute you can't help but like him. He's so naive, so bright eyed, he's irresistible. The voice acting is decent enough when you can understand what the Chipmunks are saying (there are moments where the background music is too loud and drowns out the dialogue). And when you can understand them you can hear how each Chipmunk has a distinct voice, which is always a plus when you're dealing with squeaky voiced characters. The Chipmunks are, in a word, great. Fun. A blast to watch.

I Read lots of negative reviews about it but hey!! they are being unreasonable. If you can only analyzed and understand the message of the story it was not only for fun or for kids to watch, it was actually better than watching garfield 2. so guys, I definitely recommended this movie if you like to watch free screening you can check on www.movie6.net. the site kinda bit slow but you can browse thru it if you have a fast internet.
